Dreamy Kuwait Desert Nights

Dreamy Kuwait Desert Nights on a TV, a framed screen and a laptop in a Kuwaiti living room

This one is one winter night in the desert. Sixteen pieces, from sunset to first light.

This collection is a reminder of all the nights I enjoyed sharing with friends and family in the desert of Kuwait. I hope it brings back memories like it did for me.

The night starts with the camp lighting up. The kashta lights come on at blue hour. The dallah warms on the embers. Somebody drives up the sand track late, headlights first. Then the fire, the stars, and nobody in a hurry to go to sleep.

Two brass dallah Arabic coffee pots warming on glowing embers beside a tray of finjan cups and a bowl of dates
A camel caravan in silhouette crossing a moonlit dune ridge under a huge full moon
A falconer seen from behind by a campfire at dusk, a hooded falcon on his glove

The winter camp at sunset. A black bayt al-sha'ar under the Milky Way. A caravan under the full moon. A falconer by the fire, the oud by the fire, the night grill by the tent. Shooting stars. A saluki keeping watch. Camels resting. Lightning far off over the dunes. And first light, when the fire is down to embers and the cushions are empty.

Sixteen pieces.
