Valentine came first. Then Ariya, then Mini, then Junior, who looks so much like his dad it's almost rude. Then T'challah, solid black, last of the line. Carmalita watches all of it and says nothing. Tupac has opinions.

Nine now. The house is loud from the time we wake up until the lamp goes on. Then all of them stop moving at once, and Kuwait goes quiet through the window, and for about an hour it's the best place I've ever lived.

That hour is what I drew. Twelve times. These two are yours.
