Somewhere to sit, with the water already there

I'm Hawaiian. I grew up with ocean on every side of me, and I grew up watching Japanese animation. Those were the worlds I spent my childhood in.

It took me a while to notice those two things were pointing at the same place. When I started drawing this coastline, what came out was Japan the way an island person sees it. From the water. From a cliff. From somewhere high where you sit and don't do anything at all.

There's no such cliff. It's a homage to Japan, and to the plain pleasure of watching the sea and having nowhere to be.

Made to actually live on a desktop

Most wallpapers are made to be looked at once. This one sits behind your work all day, so each piece puts its weight on one side and leaves the other open, so your icons, your dock and your windows have somewhere to go. Two clear the left.
